The King is an eccentric, cranky old man. He rules the medieval kingdom where the children are transported by the Witch. He isn't liked by his subjects, whom he treats with tyranny and neglect. The King considers himself to be a very witty man, and likes laughing at his own jokes. He is obsessed with the idea that a plot is being hatched against him, but does not really know what is going on in his kingdom. In fact he allows himself to be easily manipulated by the Chancellor.
