The Major-domo is a man of fragile body and angelic nature. With innate gentleness he oversees all the work of the King's household, and supervises the servants and kitchen staff. He is honest, good-hearted, and true-spoken. Though he tries to oppose the cruel decisions of the King and the Chancellor, his position at court is too weak for his opinion to be respected.
